🎈 Garmin Fenix 5S Plus Battery Drain
Garmin quietly lumbers towards a battery fix. It seems that Garmin didn’t really believe reports from myself and many other people concerning unexpected battery drain issues. This is STILL a relatively widespread issue that seemed to come to a head at the start of 2021 when I and others posted about it (see re-post below).

The biggest power drain is potentially the backlight, so it's worth checking the backlight settings. Each 10% backlight draws about 1.5% of battery per hour, so 100% backlight will deplete the battery VERY fast. I find 10%-20% backlight works fine. Also check the length of the time-out period.
Here's what I did for the solution: 1- Hard reset. I turned off the clock. I held down the two buttons on the right as it booted up. I let go of a key after the first beep. Other button after second beep. 2- Soft Reset. I reset all the settings of the clock from the menu. 3- I tried Alpha and Beta versions.
Update 19.30 - Battery runs out in a short time. With this update, my Fenix 5 X Plus loses almost 20% of battery in one day, after using only the GPS for 16 minutes and no PulsOx at night. Without this update it lasted much longer. To lose a 20% it had to be at least 2 intense days of activity. I think there is a bug in the battery life.
battery drain overnight. Hi, it happened only once, but I really hope it will never happen before a race. I charged my garmin in the evening to 100% and disconnected it from charger than put it no my arm. In the morning I saw only 10%! It never happened before. I manage to charge it using a powerbank while biking to 55% and continued the ride.

Garmin says 32 hrs of gps for fenix 5x plus,, so I think 30 hrs hiking over 4 days is reasonable. As long as its being stopped but not saved each night. Other option is to use ultratrac mode. That'll definitely last the whole time. Or even better, bring a spare battery to top up the charge overnight.
