🐟 Land Rover Discovery 300Tdi Engine
When I had a 300tdi Discovery, the cam belt was replaced but put on a tooth out of alignment. Consequently it used to belch out grey emissions when on the overrun. Although the current issue happens under different conditions, it does look similar. Occasionally when starting, everything feels a bit . . . different.
The Basics. The Land Rover 200Tdi & 300Tdi engines of the late ‘80s to late ‘90s utilise the Robert Bosch VE-type diesel injection pump. Apparently it has a 300tdi conversion bolted with LT77 gearbox. Engine is mounted closer to Bulkhead unlike 300tdi’s location. May be due to old type of chassis it has. Chassis itself looks very solid without any weldings on it. But underneath rear crossmember is rusty.
In Third Gear. Mar 16, 2015. #1. Okay. I have a Defender with a 300tdi from a Discovery recently transplanted. It runs well and does not appear to overheat. However, the expansion header tank fills to the brim with coolant and the top of the radiator empties. I've bled the system through and replaced the expansion tank.
